ECU Folding@Home
submitted by Abashore on Monday, October 8 at 1:25 PM
ECU has entered the race to help cure cancer! Please help us by installing the client software on every computer you own. Once you do, you'll never realize it's even there. No spyware, no slow-down. For more info, check out the PEC thread and our home page!
If you're like most people you've got a computer that spends a lot of time idling on a blank screen or running a cool screensaver. Did you know it's possible to directly support Cancer, Alzheimer's, and Cystic Fibrosis research using your computer's idle time? The Stanford University Folding@home project provides a small piece of software which uses your computer?s spare processing power to run simulations and help researchers understand these diseases.

Monkeys write Hamlet in "All in the Timing"
submitted by GrtAmcnNvl on Monday, October 16 at 3:17 PM
In the “infinite monkey theorem”, the belief is that – given enough time – a monkey could write the works of Shakespeare by randomly hitting typewriter keys.
Want to see three monkeys give it their best shot?
The Greenville Theatre Project is proud to present David Ives’ “All in the Timing” in the Jenkins Fine Arts Center at ECU on Oct. 20 – 22 and Oct. 27 – 28
“All in the Timing” is a collection of six one-act comedies that explore the advantages and disadvantages of the English language. From awkward singles trying to make sense of the complexity of talking to the opposite sex, to philosophizing chimpanzees trying to produce an as-of-yet unseen script for Hamlet, these eccentric personalities will usher the audience through a dizzying and absurd exploration of the English language.
Though all audiences will delight in the play, college students especially will enjoy Ives’ take on the intricacy of interpersonal communications. In a world of political correctness, Ives almost irreverently pokes fun at the all-too-common weaknesses that everyone (man or woman) suffers.
Performance times are 8 p.m. on both Fridays and Saturdays, with a matinee performance on Sunday at 6 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Students or military with a valid I.D. can purchase tickets for $10. Call 758-4190 for information or reservations.
Proceeds benefit the Family Violence Program of Pitt County.
